Ms Yang Bin, Ms Chen Xiaoping (both from Shenzhen) and Ms Ling Honghua, 58, (who was visiting relatives in Shenzhen from Hubei Province), were followed by two plainclothes officers to the Dachong area of the High-Tech Industrial Park in the Nanshan District on the afternoon of March 11th, 2015.
As the women were eating, the police called for help to arrest them. They were taken to Gaoxin Police Station in the Nanshan District.
Handcuffed all night, the practitioners were taken to the Nanshan District Detention Centre the following day. Ms Ling exhibited symptoms of tuberculosis, leading detention centre staff to refuse to admit her three times.
Undeterred, the police took her to a section of the Nanshan Hospital affiliated with the detention centre. She was forced to wear restraints during the two days she spent in the hospital. She was then admitted to the detention centre on orders from higher authorities.
The three practitioners refused to be fingerprinted or to wear uniforms. Police and inmates acting on police orders abused the practitioners by twisting their arms, bending their fingers, pulling their hair, and depriving them of sleep. The practitioners refused to answer any questions or sign anything. They did the Falun Gong exercises and clarified the truth to everyone they encountered.
The Nanshan District 6-10 Office and Domestic Security Division are behind the arrests, abuse, and detention. The Nanshan District Procuratorate issued official arrest notices on April 17th.
Extra personnel were stationed at the police station. Officials kept their badges hidden and did not give their names when carrying out their interrogations. Their signatures were unrecognisable. They have tried to keep everything about the case secret. The officer in charge of the case is about 30 years old, and his last name is Li.
